Welcome to John F. Long School

Dear Parents,

I appreciate the opportunity to greet you as the new Principal at John F. Long Elementary School.  While my official title has changed, my intense commitment to support our students, parents, and staff remains the same.  I am glad to have worked with many of you in one capacity or another over the last six years. I look forward to continuing to develop our partnership in support of your children during their time at JF Long School. Over the next few weeks, we will be asking you to commit to a few specific tasks in order to enhance our school-home partnership.  One example of this new approach to our parent/school collaboration is to ask you to come to Parent-Teacher Conferences with a specific set of questions for our teaching staff:

1) What standards is my child expected to learn to master during the next grading period?

2) What data demonstrates how he/she is making progress towards mastery?

3) How does my child’s progress compare to other students in his/her grade level? 

4) What can I do to support my student at home to reach his/her learning goals? 

As you can see, we will be asking you to join us in updating our commitments to our students and to each other as a school community. It is not enough for us to work hard for our students. According to Dr. John Hattie, a leading education researcher, and author, we must commit to doing “what works best” for every child at John F. Long School.
